Kickboxing is a term used to describe particular types of contact sport with boxing gloves in a ring, falling under the category of boxing. This includes Karate, Chinese Boxing, K1, Muay Thai or Full-Contact.

The name “kickboxing” was first introduced in the mid-1970s by Alain Delmas. This discipline brings together a number of modern styles of boxing, which themselves borrow from other martial arts.
Among these boxing styles are the French savate and the American full-contact. What sets these combat sports apart from others, though, is the combination of traditional boxing movements for the fists and Kyokushinkai karate techniques for the feet. The variants of Japanese kickboxing K1 and Muay Thai add physical attacks using elbows and knees as well as the feet and fists.
