Pilates is a modern discipline developed in the 20th century. Pilates can truly be said to be a medical concept. Joseph Pilates, its creator, suffered from rickets and asthma in his youth. To turn his weaknesses around into strengths and to conceive his method, he first drew inspiration from nature.
He developed his first movements from the stretching patterns of the animal world. He then enriched his method with moves taken from a variety of sporting disciplines, with a philosophy strongly influenced by oriental methods such as Yoga.

Posture
Switching between dynamic and static postures, regularly working deep muscles maintains and rebalances the body.
Resistance
Low-impact exercises enable muscle resistance to be developed over a long period of time.
Balance
The deep muscles used in the various exercises maintain the discs and vertebrae. Strengthening these muscles leads to improved balance.
